The following student position(s) is/are a part of IBM Canada's EPIC (Employment Pathways to Interns & Co-ops) Student Program. This/These position(s) is/are only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM work term.

  • This Student Position resides in Markham and is a 16 month work term starting in May 2014.

    Job description:
    Title: Rational Technical Support Professional

    Our service team delivers remote support to worldwide IBM customers using our software for large scale application development. As you provide support to our customers you will be responsible for working with internal and external resources to troubleshoot, identify and develop solutions or workarounds for customer issues and continue to enhance your analytical and problem solving skills.

    This Developer Support role will provide you with the opportunity for hands-on experience with leading edge Collaborative Application Lifecycle Management products. Rational Team Concert is our flagship ALM product integrating Source Code Management, Work Item Tracking, Build Management, Planning and Team Collaboration. Working with Rational Team Concert, you will have the opportunity to learn about agile development practices, development task planning, source control management, as well as exposure to WebSphere Application Server and database technologies such as DB2.

    To succeed on this team we are looking for candidates who are confident, self-motivated and highly driven, enjoy solving problems, has excellent verbal and written communication skills, wanting to work closely with customers, relish a challenge and enjoy learning. Technical support or customer facing experience would be beneficial but not a requirement.     Qualification:
  • Strong Problem Solving & Troubleshooting Skills a must.
  • Development Lifecycle Knowledge/Experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of application servers (WAS/Tomcat) & Database skills (DB2/Oracle/Derby) preferred.
  • Any knowledge of JAZZ based applications or RTC would be a benefit.
  • Customer Handling/Negotiation Skills.
  • Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills
  • Coop or internship program enrollment an asset
  • Required
    • High School Diploma/GED
    • English: Fluent

    • Pre-University qualification
    Additional information
    This role will involve working with technology that is covered by embargo Export Regulations. If you are a Foreign National from any of the following embargoed countries (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria) on a work permit you are not eligible for employment in this position.
