The following student positions are a part of IBM Canada's EPIC (Employment Pathways to Interns & Co-ops) Student Program. These positions are only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM work term.
Job Title: XML Technologies Tester/Developer
Main Responsibilities include:
XML has been described as the "dial-tone of the web", since it provides the framework that most computer systems use to exchange data and documents. The XML development team creates components that allow critical IBM products as diverse as DB2 and the Websphere Application Server to offer their customers industry-leading performance and functional capability relating to XML processing. As a member of our team, you'll help to improve the quality of our components further by developing a deep understanding of open standards and IBM product requirements in order to produce effective test plans. You'll work with innovative and experienced developers to fine-tune these plans, then implement them in test suites using Java as well as by creating XML documents/schemas, XSLT stylesheets and XQuery statements. You'll also perform test automation and analyze failures, helping to provide developers with as much information as possible about bugs in our components. You may also contribute to creating tests of the performance of our products or help to identify and analyze performance problems. You may also add features to our test or performance harnesses or contribute to a library of Perl utilities and other testing and collaboration tools. Some of our outstanding students have also fixed bugs and implemented features in our components themselves.
During this work term, you will have the opportunity to enhance your programming skills, acquire experience in functional and performance testing, and gain extensive knowledge of open standards such as W3C XML Schema, XSLT, XPath and XQuery. You'll also be able to gain insight into Websphere Application Server as well as other important IBM products with which we work.
• Experience programming in Java.
• Skills in Eclipse-based development
• Experience using Windows, UNIX/Linux
• Familiarity with XML, XML Schema, XSLT, XPath, XQuery
• Coop or internship program enrollment an asset
